from 2001 to 2021Suzuki GSX-R 1000 - A saga of performance

When the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 arrived at the end of 2000, it was a veritable bomb that shattered the world of hypersports. 160 horsepower for 170 kilos - that's unheard of! It shattered the competition and became THE benchmark sports bike. Even the Ducateam ran a GSX-R 1000 in Endurance racing. It dominated until 2004, when the competition responded with models boasting over 170 hp. Barely a year later, Suzuki responded with 178 hp on a GSX-R that came in at 166 kg dry weight. For many, this was the best vintage of the dynasty. In the years that followed, competitors managed to get back into the field. The game became more complicated for the Suz', which was gradually overtaken by the ZX-10R and then the R1 Crossplane II.

Until 2009, the big Gex evolved every two years, then stagnated until 2016. The following year, the GSX-R 1000 revived with new styling and a powerful engine. Equipped with tongue-and-groove timing and a 202-hp engine, it also made up for lost time in terms of electronics, with a whole host of assistants. But this version, seconded by an R version with better suspension, never regained the glory of the 2000s. In France, it will end its career in 2021 - a few examples will still be sold in early 2022. The GSX-R 1000 continues its history in other countries, but no longer evolves.
